USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams fell further than anyone expected in the 2015 NFL draft, and he landed in a surprising spot.
The New York Jets – already loaded along the defensive line – selected Williams with the sixth pick in the draft Thursday.
Most analysts ranked Williams as the No. 1 overall player in the draft. It was no surprise when quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota went ahead of him, to Tampa Bay and Tennessee, respectively. Nor was it shocking when Jacksonville, picking third and in need of an edge rusher, took Florida’s Dante Fowler Jr.
