The Syracuse Orange may have put the squeeze on, but Toledo got the juice.

Not a bad trick.

When Syracuse recently backed out of the schools’ 2026 football game in Upstate New York, Toledo was left scrambling late in the game.

Impressively, it didn’t just salvage a tough hand. It improved it. The Rockets upgraded their home schedule, and likely came into some money, too.

How?

“Sometimes you're good, sometimes you're lucky,” Toledo athletic director Bryan Blair said. “I'm not sure this is either/or, but we made the best out of the situation we were put into.
