Steelers Say They Didn’t Expect Tomlin To Step Down – But They Sure Seemed Ready

When the pair met on Tuesday, Art Rooney II says he wasn’t “shocked” but didn’t expect Mike Tomlin to resign. It leaves the Steelers searching for the franchise’s first head coach since 2007. With the eight other jobs opening up ahead of them, it might feel like the team is behind the search. They’ve wasted no time catching up.

Within 25 hours of Tomlin telling the team he was stepping down, the Steelers had already submitted five interview requests to replace him. Four on the defensive side of the ball: Chris Shula, Jesse Minter, Anthony Weaver, and Brian Flores.
