Remember when Kyle Tucker was reported as being the New York Yankees' "backup plan" to Cody Bellinger? Well, Tucker's leaked offer from the New York Mets (reportedly in the realm of $50 million AAV) just exposed that idea as impossible (sorry, Jon Heyman). But hey, maybe Bo Bichette is now the Yankees' new Bellinger "backup plan," replacing Tucker (Heyman again, wink-wink)!
It was beginning to feel weird that the Yankees were entirely silent on the Tucker front, but now we know the numbers behind the disinterest. This could mean a couple of different things for New York's ongoing pursuit of Bellinger (which includes a $155-$160 million final offer).
