After his option was declined during the end-of-the-year roster decisions, New York City FC announced that midfielder Andrés Perea is back. The player signed a new contract through the 2027-2028 season, with a one-year option. In other words, he will be with the Bronx side when they move over to Queens and when Major League Soccer changes the season calendar.
To be honest, it was a little shocking when NYCFC did not pick up his option. However, after some thought and hearing other opinions, it did make sense. Perea was injured and will likely be out for a good portion of the 2026 season.
