Reds make expected bullpen sacrifice after Pierce Johnson signing becomes official

The Cincinnati Reds made their acquisition of Pierce Johnson official on Thursday afternoon. The former Atlanta Braves reliever signed a one-year deal with the Reds that includes a mutual option for the 2027 season. Initial reports revealed that Johnson's deal is worth a guaranteed $6.5 million.

But since the Reds' 40-man roster was completely full, a corresponding move needed to be made. Cincinnati made the most logical move left on the board and designated reliever Yosver Zulueta for assignment.

Zulueta was plucked off waivers by the Reds prior to the start of the 2024 season after he was DFA'd by the Toronto Blue Jays.
