Diamond Hogs Losing Potential Leadoff Hitter Right Before Season Triggers Deja Vu Feeling

Even before beginning preseason practice Monday, the Arkansas baseball team has been dealt a significant blow for the 2026 season.

Brenton Clark, who was in the mix to start in the outfield, will miss his redshirt freshman campaign with a shoulder injury, head coach Dave Van Horn announced during Friday’s press conference. Clark underwent surgery late last year to repair a torn labrum.

“He said it was bothering him in the summer, but not as much,” Van Horn said. “We don’t know if he hurt it by throwing or hitting, but he had a tear … It was too painful and we just said, ‘Let’s get it fixed.
